Tyler Shoemaker to Open 2010 Midget Season at Macon Speedway

MACON, IL.(4-22-10) – Tyler Shoemaker and the Ballinger Racing team will travel to Macon Speedway to kick off their 2010 O’Reilly POWRi National Midget season Saturday, April 24.

The 25-year-old Bloomington, native will be piloting the No. 121 McLean County Asphalt Midget entry for Dale Ballinger for the 3rd consecutive season.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the seat,” said Shoemaker. “I grew up watching my dad [Bill Shoemaker] race modifieds at Macon. It’s a fast little joint and should bring some great racing. We have a good race car and I’m looking forward to bringing home a strong finish this weekend.”

After being resurfaced in March, Macon Speedway hopes to make the famous 1/5 mile track the raciest track in the Midwest.  “We’ve heard it is fast. We love coming to Macon.  It’s such a great place for the midgets,” Shoemaker said about the new surface. “Hopefully the new dirt will make it that much more exciting.”

Shoemaker started his driving career at the age of seven. The Ballinger Racing “hot shoe” has raced everything from a quarter midgets to 800HP sprint cars. A former quarterback at the University of Dubuque, Shoemaker won the UMARA Dirt Sprint Car Championship in 2005.
