Battery Issue Halts Shoemaker’s A-Main Finish at Macon Speedway on NASCAR Night
MACON, IL. (7-5-10) – Tyler Shoemaker and the Ballinger Racing team traveled South to Macon Speedway Monday Night for the rescheduled “Night of NASCAR Stars II”. 34 POWRi National Midgets signed in for the night’s 30-Lap Feature.
The 25-year-old Bloomington, IL, native drew a 7th place starting position for the heat race. After practice the team decided to change the gear. The track began to lose moisture during the heat races. Immediately, Shoemaker took the Ballinger Racing’s Volkswagen-powered midget to the top of the race track making quick work of the field. On lap 5 of the 8 scheduled laps the two cars of Robinson, and Galbraith got together. He was able to squeeze by the wreck. Shoemaker would restart in the 4th spot, where he would finish, giving him a transfer spot to the 22-car, 30-lap Midget Feature.
Shoemaker would start 15th in the Feature. The team made some changes as the track tightened up and looked to take rubber on the bottom. A caution on lap 5 would bunch the field for the restart. As they were coming to the green flag, Shoemaker lost power and had to pull to the infield ending his night. He would finish 22nd. Brad Loyet was the eventual winner.
“We had a solid night, commented Shoemaker. Obviously not the finish we wanted, but we had the car working well. I was pleased with that. We are starting to get a handle on things. We’ll just have to go to work at Shepp’s [Speedway].”
The Ballinger Racing Team will make its next stop at Shepp’s Speedway, Sunday July 25th.
Shoemaker started his driving career at the age of seven. The Ballinger Racing “hot shoe” has raced everything from a quarter midgets to 800HP sprint cars. A former quarterback at the University of Dubuque, Shoemaker won the UMARA Dirt Sprint Car Championship in 2005.
